Turn that Monday Frown Upside Down!

I’d say “Happy Monday” but that just feels so…wrong. Let’s face it, even if you’re lucky enough to have your dream job, Mondays are just plain daunting. If you’re reading my blog, you’re probably just like me (although probably not NEARLY as disorganized): your schedule during the week is absolutely packed and by Friday you’re completely wiped.

So I always try to start my week off with a nice lil morning workout and  a good breakfast. (Please note: This does not always happen)

The Monday Routine

My Monday routine generally consists of waking up around 5:30 am (ugh), picking up my two huge bags (an NYC chick must travel with lots of bags because it is not always easy to get from Point A to Point B), walking around the corner to Dunkin Donuts (where they know me too well), ordering a large iced coffee with skim, walking 15 minutes to the subway and finally arriving at the gym about an hour after waking up. It is times like this I wish I lived in my hometown, Omaha, where it’s not quite so complicated just to get to the gym. But as complicated as it all sounds, I must say, when I’ve got some good music on during this looong routine, it’s all good.

Today I did 5 miles on the treadmill and my 8 minute arm routine (I will be posting a video of this soon!). I was pretty tired so unfortunately they were 5 SLOOOOW miles. Luckily, when I got to work, I got to enjoy one of Hungry Girl’s patented EGG MUGS. If you haven’t tried this yet, you really should.

Hungry Girl egg muggs are genius

For my egg mug, I poured 3/4 a cup of egg substitute into my pretty mug, microwaved for 2 1/2 minutes, and added some salsa, bean dip and cottage cheese. Voila, a delicious protein packed breakfast ready in 3 minutes.

Warning…sometimes these eggs smell as they are cooking up. Let’s just say my coworkers always know when I’ve made an egg mug! I’m a huge fan of Hungry Girl and actually got to meet her last week at a book signing – tune in tomorrow for a recap.

Lots of work to do today, but here are some things that are helping me turn my Monday frown upside down:

Amazing Recaps of the More/Fitness Half Marathon in NYC this past weekend:

  • Carrots ‘N Cake: Rock star Tina has run THREE half marathons in 3 weeks and she didn’t let the big hills of Central Park stop her from finishing number 3 strong!
  • Bun&Borough: Christine’s recap will make you feel like you’re right there running with her! So many spot-on observations.
  • Healthy Tipping Point: Caitlin didn’t let an injury get her down and gives a great perspective of what it’s like to walk a half marathon.

Celebration of a Love Story:

Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life, Courtney’s, husband proposed two years ago TODAY and she recapped the proposal in her post today!

A Sweet Start to the Week:

Jessica’s (How Sweet Eats) delicious chocolate dipped peanut butter meringue cookies are a work of art. I can’t make them…but I can stare and drool!

Oh AND it’s Championship Monday! Go Bulldogs! Enjoy this video from Hoosiers to get pumped up for a great game tonight 🙂

Question: Who are you rooting for?
