Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

I’m running very far behind today. I wanted to ring in Cinco de Mayo in style last night…so I drank this WHOLE thing all by myself….Needless to say, I had a rough time getting out off my cozy bed this AM…

Holy Margarita! Ay ay ay!

JUST  KIDDING! That picture is from about 4 years ago…and of course I didn’t drink the whole thing 😉

I don’t generally drink during the week, so my plans to celebrate Cinco de Mayo included baking Courtney’s INCREDIBLE Healthified Margarita Cake and throwing together a Fiesta Kitchen Sink Salad

At least it's colorful 🙂

And then I got home from a meeting with Girls on the Run last night, and I was just wayyy too tired to do anything but watch mindless reality television and munch on whatever was left in my kitchen. I didn’t even work out! Mission FAIL!

I DID manage to stop by my fave cupcake shop on my way to work to see what they were cooking up for Cinco de Mayo.

Heaven!

But, due to Budget Diet constraints, I couldn’t buy 10 Margarita Cupcakes for the whole office (like I normally would). I had to settle for one.

I think Courtney's Margarita Cake would have been better!

Even running behind, I couldn’t resist doing one small thing to show my love for the de Mayo. Me and Mexico go waaaaay back. Whereas normal college students go to Europe, Australia and South America, I studied abroad in Mexico City. For 3 months, I lived with a Mexican family, studying Spanish and Mexican government during the week and exploring random villages in the Mexican mountains. If you could only see the pictures from those crazy times. Alas, my old hard drive crashed so the memories are in my head. Suffice it to say, due to my incredible experience in la ciudad de mexico, I love any and everything Mexico related. Viva Mexico!

Sleeping more than Ryan Reynolds but WAY less than Heidi Klum

As you might remember, a couple weeks ago I discussed a People mag article that talked about celebrity sleeping habits. In short Ryan Reynolds never sleeps but still looks hot and Heidi Klum somehow sleeps 10 hours a night and looks like a supermodel. So extra sleep does not equal beauty??

Anyway, I shared how I generally only get 5-6 of sleep per night, despite my best efforts. Between work, running, blogging and socializing, it seems impossible to fit in much more! But lately, it’s slid even lower to as little as 4 hours on both Monday and Tuesday.

And here is what happens when I don’t sleep:

  • My runs turn into a chore and sometimes I skip them altogether
  • I stop adding variety to my workouts
  • My passion for work declines
  • I make unhealthy food choices (that Margarita Cupcake was supposed to be split with my coworkers…)
  • My sunshiney personality turns partly cloudy (never full clouds or rain of course!)
  • My blog writing makes less sense (perhaps?)

As you can see, none of the above are good things. I don’t know how Ryan Reynolds manages to be so awesome at life without getting any shut-eye…

So, I’m going to take a few days off from the ol’ Sometimes Healthy blog to get my life back in order. Since I know you don’t want to read about me dipping mounds of pretzels into giant tubs of cream cheese, I’m going to re-prioritize before I get to that point. When I originally started this blog, I planned on posting 2-3 times a week. Somehow, being typical type A- to B+ Jamie, I’ve stuck to a 2 posts per day schedule. I think this frequency will have to change moving forward, but I’m going to take some time to figure out a schedule that works for me.

If you’d like to do a guest post while I’m out, please let me know!

So until next time, please enjoy this song that always takes me back to the good ol’ days in Mexico.

  3. Omg so many cupcakes! I would love to try a margarita cupcake 😀

  4. Oh my gosh, I’m with you on the affects of not enough sleep. I’m just like a grumpy zombie. I don’t know how I did it all through school with going out all of the time. Now it’s bedtime by 10pm. Haha.

  5. Aww I will surely miss you but it’s important to get your life back in order! I’m sure you will feel much better after and I shall anticipate your return 🙂

  6. I had the same problem today. I was at Starbucks and wanted to buy the people at work a cake pop, but couldn’t cause of my tight budget. I settled for a mocha coconut frapuccino for me, and no cake pops.
