Peanut Butter and Jelly Overnight Oats in Jar

PB & J Oats in a Jar....mmmmmm!

Oh yeah…I went there. I guess you could say it’s kind of like “his” and “her” Oats in a Jar (OIAJ.) The purple Smuckers jelly jar for the girl and the brown PB jar for the boy. I know what you’re thinking…”But Sometimes Healthy Girl, you don’t HAVE a man, so why would you create his and her OIAJ?” And no, the extra OIAJ is not for my imaginary boyfriend.

In fact, my best friend Emily, from Nebraska, is in town for a work trip, and we had a sleepover! Even though her work would have paid for a hotel room one more night, we decided we’d pretend we were in grade school again and stay up late gossiping while watching episodes of 90210.

Emergency Stop at 16 Handles

When Emily and I met up tonight, I told her that it was very important we go somewhere ASAP. So as soon as she got off work, I dragged her suitcase and all, to 16 Handles, frozen yogurt utopia (a topic I talk about ALL the time on my blog if you check out my word cloud.) While she was very exhausted, she admitted that this special treat was totally worth the extra stop before my warm bed.

I am home...

Michelle, my best friend from New York, also met up with us. And the two of them bonded immediately…over funny stories about me. Shocking.

instant friends!

Can you guess which fro yo mixture was mine?

Which one is Sometimes Healthy Girl's

I may or may not received a couple of “You’re not going to eat all of that” looks from other customers. But I just turned my nose. In a land of 16 flavors and endless choices of delicious toppings, you must always go big or go home. Plus, in typical Sometimes Healthy fashion, this was sort of my dinner…oops. Sorry for partying.

But Back to the Oats

But let’s get back to the “his and her OIAJ.” Of course, one of the main topics of our fro yo convo was my dear old blog. As I detailed to Emily anything and everything that I write about, I noticed her face scrunch up in disgust as I described the concept of Overnight Oats in a Jar and how I made this incredible concoction for the first time last week. Apparently, Emily doesn’t understand nor appreciate the idea of cold oatmeal. “But it’s amazing!,” I said. “All you do is throw some stuff in a jar, put it in the fridge and BOOM, a nutritious breakfast.”

She still wasn’t convinced.

So, like the diligent little blogger that I am, I insisted on making her some Overnight OIAJ for breakfast this morning. Unfortunately, I didn’t have two empty jars of PB. So, I used an empty jar of jelly. Why not? I threw about 1/2 cup of almond milk, 1/2 cup of oats, 1 tbsp of PB, raisins and mashed bananas in both jars.

This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship

This morning, they came out looking creamy and delicious. I couldn’t WAIT for Emily to try this baby! It took a bit of coaxing for me to get her to dip that spoon into the jar. I was sure she would have her best friend to thank for a new favorite breakfast!

PB & J OIAJ and Sunshine. A winning combo

Sadly, I was wrong. One bite and she was done. She switched to regular, boring ol’ oatmeal.

Emily, you're missin' out with that boring bowl of oatmeal!

Well, guess you can’t win them all ๐Ÿ™‚ Once I finish this post and my OIAJ, Emily and I are going to run through Central Park to the Today Show to watch it live for a bit. Then, we’re going to play in the city ALL day.

Blogging and OIAJ = happiness

It’s a holiday: Bring Your Best Friend to New York Day. Therefore, I am playing hooky…okay not really, I took an approved vacation day – you know I’m not that crazy! Have a great Thursday – we’re almost to the holiday!

Question:ย

Do you have a tough time convincing your significant others/best friend to like your weird/wacky healthy creations? What are some of the foods they absolutely will not try/enjoy?

26 Thoughts on “Peanut Butter and Jelly Overnight Oats in Jar

  1. I’m not an overnight oats fan either…I like mine hot!

Have fun with your friend! Sleepovers are so fun!

  2. I must confess…I think overnight oats are digusting. I tried em once and almost gagged.

now your fro yo—i could get on board with that.

  3. Can you believe I’ve lived in NYC for four full years and still have not tried 16 Handles? I read about it all over the blogosphere. Maybe it’s time for me to step up! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Enjoy your day off, I’m so envious while sitting here at my desk!

    • Oh my! I cannot believe you’ve never been to 16 Handles! As a healthy living blogger, you must go. There is one on UES, UWS AND LES. I hope there is one by you so you can try immediately. Additionally, it’s hot out today so if you’re in the city, I saw you hop on ova to the handles!

  4. I really need to try over-night oats. I think it’s a right of passage into the healthy living blog world. ha You really just put dry oats & milk (& goodies) in a jar and it works!?!

I’m with Grace, jealoussss as I sit at my desk thinking about what to put in my over-night oats for tonight. Ugh.

    • YES it is a right of passage so you must do it. haha ;-). Dry oats, milk (or almond milk), mashed bananas, raisins, cinnamon, a little sugar and anything else you want to add. Let me know how it turns out!

  5. that froyo looks like the best thing ever. I wish WI had a 16 Handles more than anything. I have not yet hopped on the OIAJ bandwagon but I’m sure I will soon enough ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I wish you had 16 Handles too. Of the million places in NYC, it is my favorite…considering how much the city has to offer, that might be a little strange, but that’s okay. Definitely try those OIAJ!

  6. Hi, Jamie! It’s my first time commenting, but I’ve been reading your blog for a while and I really love it.
Yum, I always go crazy at self serve fro yo places. I’m a little obsessed.

  7. I love OIAJ, scrapping the sides of the pb is the best part. And I love all that fro-yo! Yumm ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. Oh. My. God. We’re fro-yo lovin’ twins! I could eat fro-yo like that all the live long day! I’ve gotten some of my friends on board with OIAJ, but that’s about where the wacky train ends and I’m on my own again haha

  9. haha, a lot of people I know think over night oats are whack. They don’t know what they’re missing! True story: at the airport this morning security was going to take my OOIAJ that I had for lunch and I convinced them to let me keep it because of an unknown medical condition.

    • hahahahaha that is absolutely hilarious! I don’t think I would have been able to keep a straight face while trying to get them to let me take OOIAJ on the plane. I admire your acting skills ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Aw no! What a waste of a jar! My friends would def scrunch their noses if i offered them a green monster!

  11. I like my OIAJ, but I have never tried over night oats. I’m not sure how I feel about letting them sit in the fridge. Maybe one day I’ll try them.
Your froyo looks amazing… with 16 flavors mine would probably look like that, too ๐Ÿ™‚
