WIAW: Good Luck Charms

Good morning, and happy “What I Ate Wednesday” (WIAW) to all. For those new to the blog, WIAW is a healthy living blogger “party” where we all share our snacks/meals from the day and then link up at this blog “Peas and Crayons.” After you finish reading my fascinating eats, I highly suggest you hop on over to Peas and Crayons to take a look at some of the other posts.

My day started out bright and early again for another job interview. As I did some last-minute studying, I scarfed down this little breakfast right here.

Healthified Homemade Egg McMuffin with egg whites, lowfat cheese and 2 tons of ketchup + an apple/banana fruit salad.

The interview went relatively well, and when I stopped at the gas station to pick up some coffee, I just couldn’t help grabbing this snack before the gym.

I just had to eat this cereal bar for good luck! How many 30-year-olds do you know that eat Lucky Charms for good luck? That’s why I am special.

Sidenote: Whenever I eat Lucky Charms (and it’s not like this is a regular occurrence), I can’t get that little leprechaun’s voice out of my head. “Ohhhh, you’ve found me Lucky Charms! They’re magically delicious!”

Check out this article on best “brand mascots.” I might actually have to give it to the Pillsbury Dough Boy…

Anyway, I digress.

I knocked out 5 miles at the gym at a slow and steady pace. Then, I spent a few minute on the elliptical playing on Pinterest (love that my gym has Internet). And finally, I rounded off the workout with my New Years Countdown Workout.

After the workout, I was hungry girl, so I purchased this snack.

IMG_0199

Hummus, pita chips and a coconut water to rehydrate. The hummus had a kick to it, so I checked out the ingredients list. Cumin was one of the main ingredients – any of you ever add cumin to your hummus? I was actually a huge fan of the extra spice!

About an hour later, I celebrated “Love your Veggies” month with this gigantic salad.

IMG_0203

In case you haven’t noticed, I tend to eat one of these oversized salads every day. I may be the only person in the world that prefers Ruby Tuesday to a quality steakhouse, because I just love salad bars that much. Another interesting quirk I suppose!

Here are a couple of other small snacks devoured throughout the day.

Banana slathered in PB2. Love that stuff.

IMG_0236

100 Calorie pack of Goldfish. This is the perfect grab n’ go snack for me, because usually I just bring the entire container into my car and end up eating 4 servings while I drive around.

I spent dinner time in the kitchen watching the Bachelor, cooking up some chicken soup for a sick friend and trying out a new recipe for the blog.

IMG_0226

We’ll get to the soup in a second, but I must throw in a mention about The Bachelor here. I find this season almost painful to watch, and I can’t even get through an episode without multi-tasking.

“Ay ay ay” is right Mr. Juan Pablo. My favorite part of watching this show is texting commentary with my best friend Emily

IMG_0238

For the record, I’m not considering an appearance on The Bachelor, friends. As for Jaun Pablo, while he seems like a wonderful father, I’ve always questioned his sincerity, and I suppose last night proved that I’m not the only one…

Anyway, the soup included sweet potatoes, turnips, carrots, celery, spinach, couscous and shredded rotisserie chicken. It was the perfect dinner after another extremely cold day in O-Town.

I hope my friend likes it!

As for the blog recipe, well here’s a little preview…

Hint: it’s for breakfast, cookie butter is involved and, in the great words of the Lucky Charms Leprechaun, “It’s magically delicious!”

It served as my dessert for the night, along with a small cookie. When I was at the grocery store, I was stopped dead in my tracks by this magnificent display.

How could I possibly walk by without throwing just one package into my shopping cart? While Root Beer Float was certainly interesting, I had to go with one of my favorite ice cream flavors: Mint Chocolate Chip.

IMG_0235

The cookie didn’t disappoint and definitely evoked the flavors. I think it would also taste delicious warmed up and sprinkled over the top of some actual mint chip ice cream…

I may or may not have dreamed about warm cookies and ice cream last night! Hey, there are worse things to dream about.

Now, I’m going to bundle up before heading out for the day. It is currently 1 degree outside, and I may just need to bring a warm cookie with me to keep my body temperature up!

YOUR TURN:

I’m in the mood for some lively discussion!

Bachelor – love it or hate it? I have mixed emotions. Generally, it makes me uncomfortable to watch, because some of these women are a bit delusional. But then, watching them fall hopelessly (and too quickly) in love kind of makes me feel more normal and down-to-earth. It’s a similar feeling to when I watch Jersey Shore. This season is pretty terrible though…

Favorite “brand mascot?” I choose the Pillsbury Dough Boy, because I just love how he giggles with glee when you touch his stomach. However, Trick, the Trix Rabbit, and the Taco Bell Dog are a close second.

Which Chips Ahoy! Ice Cream Creation do you want to try? Root Beer Float is next on my list. According to this article, I have made the right decision.

    • Agreed on the Cookie Butter! The cereal bars are good, but they are a bit sweet. If you’re at a gas station and in need of a quick breakfast, it’s a good choice!

  5. So much yumminess on this page!!!
Lucky Charms…my fave childhood cereal. I haven’t had it since I was pregnant (one of my cravings) and now I want some. Right now!!!
I add cumin to a lot of the dips I make. I love that spice. So good in guacamole.
That salad looks awesome! I have a massive salad for lunch EVERY DAY. The one above looks like one I make…Greek salad replacing feta for cottage cheese.
Those cookies…no words! I live in Canada so we just have the basic stuff here. We probably won’t get those for another few years. Luckily I go to Palm Beach a few times a year so I’ll have to look for them on my next visit.

    • You should get yourself some of those Lucky Charms ASAP!

Cumin in guac? Never thought of it, but I love the idea!

Sad that you won’t get the cookies for a few years – let me know if you want me to ship πŸ™‚
