4 AM Pinspiration, S’mores Sundaes and Millions of Peaches

As much as I enjoy writing for my blog, I sometimes find myself dreading Monday posts for two reasons:

  1. It’s Monday.
  2. Summarize. Summarize. Summarize. Clearly, that’s never been my thing. And, I always have a hard time capturing my weekends in one short “ish” post.

So, this Monday, I’m going to keep it simple by highlighting the top 5 Sometimes Healthy moments from this weekend. Let’s start with #5…

5. S’mores Sundae. On Friday night, we took our friends out for dinner. These are the friends who graciously watch our dog while we’re out of town. Not only do they watch our dog, but they send us the cutest pictures ever of how much fun Cole is having.

These friends have a dog (Cole’s girlfriend, Lilly) and a baby, which, to Cole, means more people to play with and shower with doggie kisses.

After dinner, our friend said she had passed this kitschy looking ice cream cafe in Poughkeepsie that she thought would be right up my alley. She said it was covered in pink and surrounded by a cool-looking playground. Sold.

This looks like my kind of place!

The Best Cooking Compliment I’ve Ever Received (New Recipe!)

I’ve reached the stage of my life where the number of friends with kids outweighs the number of friends without kids. There are many reasons that I enjoy this new reality, including being able to play with my friends’ children, load them up with sugar and then give the children back to them and get a good night’s sleep. However, the best part is having a new audience for my baked goods.Since my palate is closer to a 5 year old than a 30 year old, Sometimes Healthy baking is generally quite popular with this crowd.

A couple weeks ago, the BF, me and the dog met up with some of his college friends and their children for a day of kid-friendly fun and reminiscing about the good ‘ol days. Of course, I was quick to raise my hand to volunteer for dessert!

And, come Saturday morning, I was up at 7 am to begin a baking extravaganza. The end result garnered the highest cooking praise I’ve ever received: “This cupcake was really nostalgic!

#FreeConeDay!!

Twitter gave me a very important update today:

Somehow, apparently I missed the boat on the most important day of the year: Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day.  Luckily, my Twitter feed informed me just in the nick of time. I’m trying to get all of my work done (and my workout) so that I can get in on some of that free scoop action! Why is it that free ice cream is so much more enticing than regular ice cream

For those of you that want the details on this very special day, please see below:

“As part of the Burlington, Vt.-based company’s annual Free Cone Day, customers who visit a participating Ben & Jerry’s locations noon to 8 p.m. today, April 12 will receive a free ice cream cone. The promotion is designed to thank customers for their patronage and to celebrate the company’s 33 years of business.”

In addition to traditional flavors, Ben & Jerry’s stores also will offer customers a number of new — and returning — flavors:

• Late Night Snack (inspired by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon) – Vanilla bean ice cream made with vanilla, a salty caramel swirl and fudge covered potato chip clusters;

• Bonnaroo Buzz (inspired by the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival) — Light coffee and malt ice creams with whiskey caramel swirls and English toffee pieces;

• Stephen Colbert’s AmeriCone Dream — Vanilla ice cream with fudge covered waffle cone pieces and a caramel swirl being offered for the first time in a cone; and

• A top secret flavor — Peanut butter ice cream with caramel cluster pieces and peanut buttery and marshmallow swirls.

I’ll have a full recap of my ice cream adventures later tonight! Stay tuned 🙂
