Everything happens for a reason. If it’s meant to be, it will be. It will happen when you least expect it. The moment you stop looking, you’ll find it. When it’s right, you’ll just know it.
Don’t you just HATE how whenever something really bad happens, you are repeatedly fed these seemingly meaningless cliché statements, as your friends and family scramble helplessly to comfort you?
I mentioned in a recent post the remarkable parallels between dating and job interviewing. Well, in the past year, I experienced more than a few bumps in both departments, so yes, I have heard the above cliché phrases hundreds of times.
After a job interview where I really wanted the job, but I knew in my gut I hadn’t gotten it: “You’ll have to wait and see. If it’s meant to be, it will be.”
After a couple of bad dates: “The moment you stop looking, you’ll find it. When it’s right, you’ll just know it.”
Insert eye roll.

The thing is…I’m actually starting to believe all of this advice. Continue Reading →
Yesterday was the first big snow of the season here in Omaha, and it was kind of a big deal.
Nope, actually it was all anyone could talk about! The lines at the grocery store were extremely long, as everyone prepped for Winter Storm Dion to unleash his “fury.” Rumors swirled of the potential accumulation amount, and I heard everything from 4 inches to 2 feet. For your information, the final total was a whopping 3 inches.
Given the fact that this storm was all anyone could talk about for 5 days, I was actually shocked at how poorly the roads were plowed. Perhaps the plows on the East Coast are just better?
I was able to make it to the gym to meet my good friend Becca for my Winter Wonderland circuit workout, and then I opted to avoid the slick roads for the remainder of the day. I holed up in the kitchen until dinner time, cooking up a warm, cozy meal, as well as a fun breakfast option for the blog. As I looked outside at the beautiful snowy landscape, I couldn’t help but feel very peaceful.
Since I had nowhere to go, I didn’t feel rushed and decided to simply enjoy my time in the kitchen, listening to a Pandora country music station, as I buzzed around the kitchen. A couple hours later, I decided to throw on a classic Christmas movie to play in the background, Love Actually.
Once again, I forgot how much I love this movie – definitely put me in the holiday spirit! It might have helped that I was testing out a recipe for the blog: Egg Nog French Toast with a Cranberry Strawberry Compote. Continue Reading →
Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you’re enjoying the fall weather as much as me.
You may notice a bit of a change to the design of my blog today. I was aiming for a clean look, with more white space and an emphasis on the pictures. Please let me know what you think – always looking for constructive criticism!
Anyway, it’s What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW) again, and today’s post features a reoccurrence of one very important part of my diet: protein. I’ve been slacking in the protein category these days, so I’ve been making a conscious effort to up the daily intake. I’m going to finish off this post of mouthwatering eats by sharing with you something that happened to me recently that has affected my life in a pretty major way. Protein with a touch of honesty ya’ll.
My day started a 4:15 AM, because my jet-setting BF needed a ride to the airport. He has been traveling a lot these days, but his schedule should calm down soon. I miss him…but I love having the chance to indulge in foods he hates, like spaghetti squash and tofu.
Getting up at such a crazy hour requires a large caffeine buzz. Enter Dunkin Donuts.
Oh, no you didn’t Coffee-Mate!
Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you. That right there is Girl Scout Cookie Creamer from Nestle. I saw it in the store the other day and literally almost jumped for joy. And guess what? It’s also available in Thin Mint.
The flavor was on-point, evoking the nostalgic Samoa cookie (my favorite) with every sip.
