Living in a Texan Paradise

So much grass for this NYC girl!

I’ve heard the phrase “Don’t Mess with Texas,” and I certainly won’t. Because, I HEART TEXAS :-). Since I arrived here, everyone, from the people at the airport to the cab driver (who put a movie on for me!), to the people in the hotel have been beyond nice. Must be that Southern Hospitality. A girl could get used to this ;-).

Ah, but the star of the show thus far is the hotel. Here is how a hotel makes a Sometimes Healthy Girl extremely happy:

  • A beautiful fully equipped 24 hour gym (CHECK!)
  • A delicious FREE breakfast buffet (CHECK CHECK!)
  • A giant pool, waterfall is always a nice touch (CHECK CHECK CHECK!)
  • Sprawling hotel grounds perfect for jogging and walking outside (CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK!)
Yep, this hotel has it all! I’m having the greatest time, and I haven’t even participated in the celebration Β yet!

Here’s a recap of my heavenly day so far in a Texan paradise.

I woke up WAYYY too early, but on the plus side, this meant I was one of the first people to enjoy the hotel’s breakfast buffet. Lucky girl!
MORE!

YUMMY

I don’t think pictures do this buffet any justice. It was packed with everything one could possibly want in a breakfast, including the regulars like eggs, toast, made-to-order omelets, muffins, cereal, steel-cut oatmeal, fresh fruit and more! Plus, it offered gluten-free options, which I thought was a nice touch. The best part of the buffet for me was the toppings bar :-). It contained everything from almond butter to nutella and homemade jam. I would have eaten it all straight from the jar…but I already looked weird taking pics of my food and all. Here is what I enjoyed.

slow down slugger!

I am THAT girl that goes all out on the buffet. I just get so excited at the idea of being able to eat whatever I want. I love variety ;-). I can’t say I ate everything on the plate, but that’s what buffets are for: to eat what ya want. While I ate, I read the paper. I felt like such an old man!

So worldly πŸ˜‰

I caught up on some important current events including the Royal Wedding and Robert Pattinson’s life, who as some of you know, I got a glimpse of when I accidentally ran into the Water for Elephants premiere last weekend. I am rapidly becoming a Pattinson fan by the minute. Twihards watch out. His interview with USA Today was riveting ;-), but most interesting was his comments on complaining about fame. He said that he tries not to complain too much so his parents bare the brunt of it. Of course, they then think he’s always unhappy! This reminded me of how I am with my own mother :-). See mom, I’m a very happy girl; I just need someone to unload on! Aren’t you a lucky lady!?

After four cups of coffee and extensive conversation with the entire restaurant staff (at first they thought I was the bride…I told them, no such luck), I was ready for my workout. When I got to the gym, I was absolutely floored. You should have seen my giant smile:

Heaven in Texas baby!

Look at all those weights, treadmills and ellipticals just waiting for a Sometimes Healthy Girl to put them to good use:

Not bad for a vacay - notice coffee cup?

I knocked out a decent 5 mile run, which made me happy, considering I was still sluggish from not sleeping too much yesterday and my glasses of vino on the plane ;-). While I ran I continued to round out “current events” knowledge by watching highlights from NBA playoffs game and the royal wedding. No CNN for me. I’ll stick with the Today Show and ESPN thank you very much!

I followed this up with my 8 minutes arms, quickie abs and some stretching. I think the other two people in the gym had “Sweat Envy” because man was I sweatin’ hard. Must be the Texas heat.

And speaking of heat, it’s a scorcher out here today. Thankfully, I have a beautiful pool to jump into and lay by while I catch some rays.

bliss in TX

In fact, I’m actually blogging by the pool right now. Don’t be too jealous πŸ˜‰

gotta get those rays πŸ˜‰

I’m going to listen to some music and rest for a bit and then head inside to beautify. I’ll have my party hat on tonight so expect an update tomorrow when I wake up…which will be late. Sometimes Healthy Girl is in Texas and she’s going to learn how to slow down and sleep in like the Texans do πŸ™‚ I can’t wait for the wedding tonight! This trip is already pretty much perfect. There’s only one thing missin’

Give me a cowboy Texas!

Dear Texas: You’ve been a great host, but you know what would make you the best host EVER? If you give me a cowboy to bring back to NYC? Pretty please πŸ˜‰

Back to the sun! Happy Almost Easter!

Question:

Any fun plans for the weekend?
