Squatting in Stilettos

With my recent foot injury, it’s become imperative for this Sometimes Healthy Girl to diversify her workout. While I’d take a 10 miler over a spinning class every time, my stubborn foot has decided this just isn’t an option.

As you know, I’ve been to both a doctor and physical therapist to find the quickest way to heel Mr. Foot, and while both gave me a variety of tips and exercises, they agreed on one very important point: When it comes to plantars fasciitis, flats and sandals are bad and heels and wedges are much better. Go figure – all my life I figured I was damaging myself  in high heels, and it turns out, now they can help heal (no pun intended) my ailing foot.

This could get interesting...

Well, give a Sometimes Healthy Girl an inch and she’ll take a mile in 5 inch stilettos…

If the doctors want me to wear heels over flats, perhaps I should trade them for my Nikes as well? Well, that was the idea behind my unique workout last night… Continue Reading →

A Night Out in the Big O!

So sorry for the lack of posts these past couple days. I may be in Omaha aka “The Big O,” but that doesn’t mean life has slowed down one bit for this Sometimes Healthy Girl.

I’ve had quite a bit on the agenda since arriving in town yesterday at 2:00.  Priority tasks included a trip to my favorite grocery store to “window shop,”

Look at the size of that produce aisle...bigger than an entire NYC grocery store!

The ice cream aisle is enormous! Is it weird that I find this exciting?

An emergency pedicure (my mother was beside herself when she saw my feet),

Some quality time laying out by my best friend’s pool (since pools in NYC are far and few between), Continue Reading →

Theme Song FRIDAY: Back Where I Come From

Had to break a couple of rules today and switch Theme Song Thursday to Friday, since I didn’t have time to blog on my b-day. Hope you enjoyed reading about my Birthday Menu Dream Team. I’m proud to report that I was able to eat one item from the menu…

Closing down 16 Handles....slow down party girl

16 Handles. Shocking, I know. I think my parents really need to start worrying about their 28-year-old daughter. She chose “closing out” 16 Handles over closing out a bar. It appears this Sometimes Healthy Girl is officially getting OLD.  I had to work a bit late, since I’m out of the office all week next week. So, I worked until about 9:00, walked the streets of NYC until 10:00 listening to some country music and closed down 16 Handles with Michelle at 11. Believe it or not, it was the perfect way to end my birthday, and I’ve got no complaints :-).

But Back to the Song Continue Reading →

Birthday Recap and the 4 Stages of a Sometimes Healthy Hangover

It's BIRTHDAY TIMEEEE

Well, as predicted, I was unable to write a proper post yesterday, as I spent the day reveling in my Sometimes Healthy Hangover and eating ridiculous amounts of fro yo and pretzels and cream cheese. Luckily, I did take lots of pictures of Saturday’s Birthday Fiesta to ensure that I’d be able to recap all of the fun with minimal words.

Vegging-Up For my Birthday Fiesta

Bring on the vegetables, baby!

Happy Happy Friday night! I’m spending my rockin’ Friday night “vegging up” and “vegging out.” Why? Because tomorrow night, it’s my annual New York birthday fiesta (my birthday is Thursday but I have a busy work week and zero time to celebrate). This will be my third birthday in NYC, and I plan on celebrating it the exact same way I celebrated the first two: Continue Reading →

Cupcake Matchmaking

If I receive one more email from my well-intentioned Sometimes Healthy Mother encouraging me to “jump into online dating,” I might just do something CRAZY…

Something like play a matchmaking game with cupcakes…

Oh wait…it’s too late. I’ve gone over the edge! Somebody stop me before I bake mounds of delicious cupcakes and force my poor coworkers to eat them….

Chill-Axin for the Holidays

A cake pop a day....makes the Work Week Blues go away?

Happy Short Week everyone! After 3-4 days of fun in the sun, I’m sure not one of us was extremely excited to get back to the grind.

Luckily, the picture to the right is how I started out my day.

Cake pops! Do these babies ever get old? I’m convinced that, like cupcakes, they’ll never go out of style 🙂 One of the ladies in our office is an incredible baker, and she seems to specialize in cake pops. Today, the flavors included Carrot Cake, Strawberry Cake, Key Lime, Piña Colada and Chocolate Cake.

If every work week starts out like this, I might just be sprinting to the office every Monday morning to ensure I have the best flavor pick. The only thing that could make this display more exciting would be if it was propped up by a can of Reddi Whip…

Hey, a girl can dream.

4th of July Weekend Round-Up

Wacky Food Combos: The Pie Filling Edition

Confession: Sometimes I hesitate to post my wacky recipes because I worry that I’ll “alienate” my readers. After all, let’s be honest, some of them are are a bit “wacky” to say the least. Well, the latest batch of Wacky Food Combos might just take the cake…or shall I say, the pie.

No judgments, please. This is a “safe space.” 🙂 I hope I don’t scare any of you away with these crazy combos. They are not for everyone – Sometimes Healthy is an acquired taste. So please, if you don’t like them, can we still be friends? There is so much more to this Sometimes Healthy Girl than unique food creations

Pie Fillings/Canned Fruit a Hidden Secret Weapon

Heaven in a can - do not fear the canned food. It was invented for those of us who are bad at baking or don't have time to do it.

When you’re a little bit dangerous in the kitchen, any item that eliminates a step in the cooking or baking process is a welcome treat. The problem with many pie fillings and canned fruit is that they are too sugary? Thus, I use the low sugar versions.

If you are against Splenda-fied deserts, stop here, go back to my homepage and read about my Lazy Girl’s Workout Plan or why every should have a theme song. I totally respect the whole all-natural thing – it’s just not for this Sometimes Healthy Girl. However, if you’re not afraid of a little fake sugar, let’s have some fun with pie filling!
