How to Make Working Late Cool

gots to have the Starbucks

Oh hello and welcome to another edition of late night office fun with Sometimes Healthy Girl! I knew it might be a bit of a late night tonight, so I planned ahead. Seriously, I did this ALL on purpose.

Here’s how a Sometimes Healthy Girl makes working late cool:

Knowing she’ll be missing out on her required hour of late night downtime watching quality television in the form of Real Housewives, she forgoes her early morning workout and succumbs to the Couch Monster….again. Continue Reading →

Sometimes Healthy Catching Some Z’s

Pillows are soft, I live in a loft.

It’s time for me to catch up on sleep, so that  I won’t be acting like a creep.

But in the meantime, please enjoy some of my faves.

I would greatly appreciate if you use the comments section to rave 😉

(This “break” will likely last all of two-three days ;-))

PS- A cure for anyone having a bad day: Google “Sleeping Puppies” Enjoy!

Sometimes We All Need a Lil’ Soul Food

Over the past couple of weeks, I got hooked on yet another reality television show, NBC’s America’s Next Great Restaurant. Give me Bobby Flay, Curtis Stone, cooking competitions and some innovative restaurant ideas, and I am hooked! The show featured contestants pitching quick-service restaurant ideas to a group of investors that included the celebrity chefs as well as the founder of Chipotle and another established restauranteur.

Go Soul Daddy!

Each week the contestants competed in various competitions while the investors helped them shape and improve their concept. The finalists included Spice Coast (an Indian concept), Brooklyn Meatball Co. (an Italian concept centered around meatballs) and Soul Daddy (a soul food concept with a healthy twist). In the end, the winner was Soul Daddy, brain child of Jamawn Woods, a self-employed cook. It was hard NOT to root for this warm, hard-working man! Each contestant had a wonderful back-story but his love for cooking and his family definitely shined above the rest. I’m sooo excited because one of Soul Daddy’s restaurants will be in Manhattan. I’ll definitely be coming by and can’t wait to sample some of that good ol’ home cookin!

Watching Soul Daddy take the crown definitely had me craving some old fashioned soul food. I didn’t really have the ingredients to create a full on soul feast. So I threw together a little soul food Sometimes Healthy style… Continue Reading →

Food Prep for the Royal Wedding…Viewing Party

A SOMETIMES HEALTHY TEA PARTY WOULD NOT BE NEARLY THIS PERFECT! 😉

As I mentioned in my previous post, my office is having a “holiday” for the Royal Wedding tomorrow. While we don’t have the day off (like those in Britain), we’ll be celebrating the epic event in several ways throughout the day culminating in a viewing party of the highlights at 4 PM. We’ll be wearing crazy hats, playing royal wedding trivia, pouring royal drinks and of course eating British grub. And, not surprisingly, I was the logical option to prep these delectable goodies. The problem is, I tend to go overboard when it comes to food…

Since I left work tonight, I’ve been prepping for the big event tomorrow. Yes, I take my duties as the Royal Wedding Viewing Party Food Provider mucho seriously. No scone will go unturned in my quest to provide (sort of) authentic, Sometimes Healthy, yet enjoyable food.

Here’s what I’ve gotten so far (I’m hoping it will all come together tomorrow…) Continue Reading →

Chicken Soup for a Sometimes Healthy Soul

Sometimes when I get sick, I start to feel a bit sorry for myself. Apparently my weakened immune system weakens my generally positive resolve. I usually sprawl out on the couch, watch sappy love stories and make a dent in my box of Kleenex. Granted, I realize I’m not required to be productive on a sick day, but I do think I could work a little harder to avoid self pity. So today, I got all the rest that I needed, but I also made an effort to keep up my spirits…

An Indian Wedding to Rival the Royal Wedding

Last night was one of the most amazing weddings I’ve ever been to in my life! William and Kate watch out! Your wedding will be nothing compared to the wedding I was lucky enough to attend last night. It’s truly special to experience another culture’s traditions, especially through weddings. The entire evening was magical – from the colorful saris (dresses), to the modern Indian music,  to the traditional ceremony and the surprising fireworks display to cap off the night. I’m going to give a recap tomorrow when I have the time, but for now, I’m running late, getting ready for ANOTHER reception (these people know how to PARTY!). So much celebration this weekend, but at the center of it all really was something simple: love. Even though I haven’t met my Prince Charming yet, I absolutely love weddings. Who wouldn’t enjoy love , laughter, dancing and open bars?!  I know “someday my prince will come” (hehe), but right now, I’m going to enjoy watching my some of my closest friends say forever :-).

Alas, Cinderella is late for the ball AGAIN. Here’s some pics to preview before the big recap!

How a Sometimes Healthy/Always Nervous Flyer Preps for Vacay

Tomorrow I leave for the great state of Texas to see my good friend from college, Suji, get hitched.

College Friends! Suji, bride to be is second from the right

I am extremely excited to reunite with college friends, eat amazing food, bask in the hot Texan sun and most importantly witness some incredibly cool cultural traditions. Suji is Indian, as is her future husband, so I know the wedding will incorporate some of their Indian culture.

The engagement party was a blast!

I AM NOT excited to sit in a giant tin can for 4 hours 30,000 feet in the air. As I have explained several times, I am a very nervous flyer.

Sad face doesn't happen very often...

Nonetheless I had to push my tiny little flying fear for the back of my mind to get ready for my Texas adventure.

A Little Pizza and Some Country

Party Jamie!

When I first moved to NYC, I felt guilty about staying in on a Friday night. For some reason, I thought it was “uncool” to stay home on Friday nights if you were a 20-something living in the Big Apple. I felt like I always had to have my “party hat” ready to go. Well, two years later, that is definitely no longer the case….

My night tonight consisted of dinner and a movie…in the ‘ol apartment. It was a long week at work, and I was ready for some relaxin’ by way of a nice and easy dinner and a chick flick! Continue Reading →
